SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS
All competitors entering must be current financial members of Southern Queensland Sliders (SQS) either full or by way of the event membership. Entry into NRHA Sanctioned classes requires current NRHA membership and NRHA Horse Licensing requirements.
Entries Closing Date: Entry forms and full payment must be received by the due date. Once your entry has been received, an invoice will be issued. Entries will only be processed once payment in full has been received. Entries MUST be accompanied with a copy of NRHA membership and horse license for sanctioned classes.
A Rider is responsible for their own eligibility levels.
Horse Numbers must be visible at all times whilst riding.
Biosecurity: Horse health form must be done online or handed to the office.
Scratchings: HORSE or RIDER (Show secretary must be notified of a scratching in writing via email southernqldsliders@gmail.com) or Show scratching form.) Scratchings will not be accepted via social media or verbal. Show Scratching forms will be available at the show office.
SCRATCH prior to draws all but the office fee will be refunded. SCRATCH once draws have been done there will be no refund.
Late Entries: Late entries will be accepted until 4pm day prior. All late entries are to be in writing. Forms will be available at the show office. NO late entries will be taken on the day.
Cancellation Policy If event is cancelled entry monies will be refunded in full.
Your entries checklist:
· Copy of current NRHA membership card;
· Copy of NRHA Horse Licence for sanctioned classes;
· Copy of payment slip to be emailed to treasurer.sqs@gmail.com ; and
· Biosecurity horse health declaration form.
Open Pen All riders must abide by Open pen rules. Right circles at the top of the pen, left circles at the bottom, slower moving riders to move to the inside of the circle to allow riders to lope fast circles on the outside of circle. No stopping or standing in the centre. Open pens may be limited to the number of horses permitted at one time. Run downs are to run straight down the pen, rather than diagonals.
NRHA Prizemoney applies to all NRHA sanctioned classes except youth. Sanctioned classes are for NRHA members only.
Only one Judges Fee applies for concurrent classes. Horses entered in both events will have one run and the score will count for all concurrent classes.
All riders and owners who show in NRHA sanctioned classes must be current financial members of NRHA

ALL SHOWS ARE RUN UNDER NRHA / SQS RULES
Any Handed Class. Can be ridden in a snaffle bit/hackamore or bridle, one or two hands. And rider may swap hands any time during the class without incurring a penalty or zero score.
Two Handed Rookie Class To be eligible a rider must not have won more than $200AUD in lifetime earnings.
Beginner Reiners: Any competitor entering a sanctioned class one handed class (exception Green Reiner 1 and 2), is NOT eligible to ride in Beginner Classes. Beginners may use any saddle and any legal bit. Must wear a long sleeved shirt and western hat or helmet. Horse does not need to be licensed with NRHA nor rider a member of NRHA. Competitors must be a full, Youth or Event member of SQS.
Beginner Horse: Can be ridden in a snaffle bit/hackamore or bridle, one or two hands. Horse does not need to be licensed with NRHA nor rider a member of NRHA. Competitors must be a full, Youth or Event member of SQS.
NRHA Green Reiner Level 1 up to 150 points or 75 youth points, Level 2 up to 250 points or 175 youth points. Points will be calculated from number of horses competing in class excluding horses that are scratched. Must not have earned $150 in NRHA lifetime earnings for level 1 and not exceed $250 NRHA lifetime earnings level 2. You may enter both level 1 & 2 until you are no longer eligible. NRHA associate membership required. Simple lead changes are permitted regardless of pattern with no penalty. Horses do not require a NRHA competition licence.
Prime Time Non-Pro is for competitors 50 years and over and hold a non pro card.
Prime Time Pro is for Professional competitors 50 years and over.
Para Reining Open to riders with physical or mental disabilities. Horses do not require a NRHA competition licence. Competitors must wear a helmet. Must submit an NRHA Para Reining Physician Statement to the Show Secretary with entry. Rider may use any aids and have trainer present in the arena. To be ridden any handed or change hands at any time Pattern A will be used. Para Reiners must hold at least an Associate Membership with NRHA.
Ranch Reining Non Sanctioned Open to any riders. Must be a member of SQS. Horses do not require a NRHA competition licence. Judging follows NRHA Green Reiner guidelines for riding two-handed and simple lead changes. Ranch Equipment Standards - No hoof polish, no hoof black. No braided or banded manes/tails or tail extensions. Holding the saddle horn with either hand will not be penalised in any Ranch Reining class. Excessive silver on bridles and saddles is discouraged.
Youth 13 & Under must wear a helmet.
Short Stirrup 10yrs & under Non Sanctioned A short stirrup competitor may ride in any type of saddle and there will be no penalty for holding the saddle with either hand. A short stirrup rider does not need to own the horse. Short stirrup riders may ride with one or two hands and may change hands throughout the class. Riders do not have to wear western attire, but they must wear a long sleeve shirt and helmet.
Junior Horse for horses 5yrs and under. Can be ridden 2 handed in a snaffle bit or 1 handed in a bridle.
Senior Horse for horse 6yrs and over. Must be ridden one handed in a bridle.
GENERAL RULES
*Judges Decision is final.
*Each rider agrees to allow themselves to be photographed or videoed and photos may be used on social media.
*Show Management reserves the right to modify the schedule or program at any time.
*SQS is affiliated with NRHA and all rules in the Rulebook must be adhered to. The rule book is available for download at nrha.com under the “Resources” tab.
*Western Show Attire to be worn in both show arena and at presentation. Safe and legal equipment is a requirement of entry, no singlets, no caps, no shorts. Wearing of an approved safety helmet is mandatory for 13 years & Under. SQS Show Management reserves the right to refuse entry to any rider not presenting with western show attire and or safe equipment
*Eligibility levels will be based on the NRHA OCEANIA current eligibility (check on Reiner Suite.) It is up to the competitor to be aware of their eligibility. NATIONAL REINING HORSE ASSOCIATION (nrha.com)
*Horses age is as of 31st July of the current show year.
*No one is permitted to ride astride a horse at any SQS event without being an SQS member.
*Unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with as per NRHA rules. Refrain from any behaviour that may bring SQS, its members or the sport of reining into disrepute.
*Animal Welfare - We remind all competitors to be very mindful of your behaviour with your horse. Many people are not familiar with western riding attire and may not understand the appearance and use of spurs or western bits. At any SQS event you may be photographed or videoed and you may be recorded without your knowledge.
*Over schooling of horses will not be permitted.
*Gate rules. Please keep the gate clear for bit checks and next horse entering the pen.
*We welcome children at our show. Please make sure they are attended by an adult when in the warm- up pen.
*Presentations – Competitors must be astride your saddled horse, wear a western hat / helmet and long sleeve shirt.
*All horses are always to be ridden saddled and bridled during an SQS event including outside warm up areas and carparks. (excluding freestyle classes).
*Dogs must remain in the camping area at QSEC and must be on a leash/chain at all times.
*Youth are NOT permitted to ride or handle a stallion. All stallions must be stabled whilst not being ridden.
*A person’s age is as per 1st of January of the current show year.
